Study Finds Pangwala Tribe Keeps a Core Gut Microbiome Despite Urban Migration

A study in BMC Microbiology (published online 15 June 2026) found that Pangwala tribespeople in Himachal Pradesh's Pangi valley and those who moved to cities keep a similar 'core' gut microbiome.
•
Researchers from Panjab University and SKAN Research Trust, funded by the Department of Health Research, used whole-metagenome shotgun sequencing on 28 healthy volunteers.
•
Prevotella copri dominated both groups (more so in Pangi residents), Bifidobacterium was abundant, and more than 100 potential antibiotic-resistance genes were found, with high vancomycin resistance.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi launched the Smart Warehousing System for foodgrain storage at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

GeM signs MoU with CSC-SPV to set up 50 GeM Suvidha Kendras across nine states

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) signed an MoU with CSC e-Governance Services India Ltd (CSC-SPV) to expand public procurement access in rural and underserved areas.

Under the pilot, 50 GeM Suvidha Kendras (GSKs) will be set up via the CSC network across nine states/regions.

It was signed by Ajit B. Chavan (Additional CEO, GeM) and Subodh Mishra (SVP, CSC-SPV) in New Delhi.

Govt sets up Search-cum-Selection Committee for National Sports Board under T.V. Somanathan

The Government of India constituted a Search-cum-Selection Committee, chaired by Cabinet Secretary Dr. T.V. Somanathan, to recommend the chairperson and members of the National Sports Board (NSB).
•
The NSB is the apex body created under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, to recognise national sports bodies and enforce governance norms.
•
Committee members include Hari Ranjan Rao (Secretary, MYAS), Lt Gen (Retd) Harpal Singh, shooter Gagan Narang and weightlifter N. Kunjurani Devi.

I4C launches GRM and Money Restoration Module portals to fight cybercrime
•
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs launched two portals in June 2026: the Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM) and the Money Restoration Module (MRM).
•
GRM addresses complaints of account holders whose bank accounts were frozen or put on lien during cybercrime probes; MRM helps fraud victims reclaim frozen or recovered money.
•
The launch followed a review of the national cybercrime helpline 1930 chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
