PLI scheme for public sector bank executives kept in abeyance for FY 2025-26
•
The Union Finance Minister met a delegation of public sector bank employees led by the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, which raised ex-gratia review, medical facilities for retired employees and the structure of the Performance Linked Incentive scheme.
•
The government decided to keep the implementation of the PLI Scheme dated 19 November 2024 in abeyance for FY 2025-26.
•
The scheme will instead be taken up in the ongoing Bipartite Settlement / Joint Note discussions.

The Ministry of Rural Development held a two-day national workshop at NASC, Pusa, New Delhi on 7-8 September 2026 to agree a common approach for formally closing DDU-GKY 1.0 projects.

Over 2,000 DDU-GKY 1.0 projects are awaiting completion of documentation; DDU-GKY 2.0 sets a placement target of at least 70 per cent.

DGFT opens API for Certificates of Origin on Trade Connect platform
•
DGFT has opened an Application Programming Interface facility for the issue and verification of Certificates of Origin through the Trade Connect e-Platform, notified in Trade Notice No. 25/2026-27 dated 7 September 2026.
•
Exporters can now link their ERP or accounting software directly to the DGFT system instead of re-keying the same data on the portal.
•
The facility covers both preferential Certificates of Origin, which unlock tariff concessions under trade agreements, and non-preferential ones used for customs clearance and trade remedy purposes.

RRI team delays entanglement sudden death with a timed flip

A team from the Raman Research Institute with the University of Calgary and Louisiana State University showed that a single, well-timed flip operation can delay - or entirely avoid - the abrupt loss of entanglement known as 'entanglement sudden death'.

The work was partly funded by the Department of Science and Technology's National Quantum Mission and was published in Physical Review A in July.
•
The result matters for quantum computing because it extends the life of fragile quantum links without any change to the hardware.

Swachh Vayu Diwas 2026: 108 of 130 NCAP Cities Cut PM10 Below 2017-18 Levels

On the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, observed on 7 September, MoEFCC held Swachh Vayu Diwas 2026 and conferred the 5th Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan awards on the best-performing cities and, for the first time, wards.

Under the National Clean Air Programme, 108 of 130 cities recorded lower annual PM10 in FY 2025-26 than in 2017-18: 72 cut it by more than 20%, 26 by more than 40%, and 14 met the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.
•
Lucknow topped Category 1, Rourkela Category 2 and Kalinganagar Category 3; ward-level assessment covered over 7,400 wards, with Ward 70 of Lucknow first in Category 1.

A PIB Backgrounder sets out the state of India's jute sector: 76 lakh bales of raw jute and 12.80 lakh MT of jute goods in FY 2025-26, with India the world's largest raw jute producer and maker of about 75% of global jute goods.

Raw jute MSP for FY 2026-27 is ₹5,925 per quintal, giving a 61.8% return over the all-India weighted average cost of production and about 147% above the FY 2014-15 level of ₹2,400.
•
The policy stack runs through the National Jute Development Programme (₹485.58 crore, FY 2021-22 to FY 2025-26), its JUTE-ICARE and Jute Diversification components, and the compulsory jute packaging law.
