VCSS uses ISRO-developed satellite transponders installed on fishing vessels to enable two-way messaging, automatic boundary-crossing alerts via geo-fencing, and emergency SOS — addressing the recurring problem of Indian fishermen accidentally crossing maritime boundaries (e.g. the India-Sri Lanka International Maritime Boundary Line) and getting detained, besides providing life-safety alerts during cyclones.
