The Ministry of Textiles will observe the 12th National Handloom Day on 7 August 2026 at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, New Delhi, with President Droupadi Murmu as chief guest.
22 awards for 2025 — 3 Sant Kabir Handloom Awards and 19 National Handloom Awards — will be conferred, alongside four commemorative postage stamps.

The Swadeshi Movement was launched on 7 August 1905 in Kolkata town hall, in protest against Lord Curzon's Partition of Bengal, calling for a boycott of British goods and revival of indigenous industries — handloom weaving foremost among them. National Handloom Day was instituted on this date in 2015 to honour that legacy.
Simple Analogy: Just as the Swadeshi Movement urged citizens to choose Indian-made cloth over British imports, National Handloom Day annually renews that call by celebrating and supporting India's handloom weavers.
