Researchers described a new flowering plant species, Begonia neelamorum, from Arunachal Pradesh.
It was named after the Neelam clan of the Nyishi tribe, whose members guided the researchers through rugged terrain to locate the plant.
The species was found in Keyi Panyor district, growing on steep, moist rock walls along the Keyi River at about 1,000 metres elevation.
It bears a single light-green serrated leaf and white flowers, and belongs to the family Begoniaceae.
The Nyishi are the largest ethnic group in Arunachal Pradesh, concentrated across eight districts of the state.
