Brazil occupies eastern and central South America with a coastline of about 7,400 km on the Atlantic, and shares land borders with every South American country except Chile and Ecuador. Both the Equator and the Tropic of Capricorn cross it. Its physiography divides into the Amazon basin in the north, the Brazilian Highlands (Planalto Central) over more than half the territory, the Guiana Highlands along the northern frontier where Pico da Neblina rises on the Venezuelan border, and the Pantanal wetlands along the upper Paraguay river in the centre-west. The Sao Francisco is the major river flowing entirely within Brazil, and the Iguacu Falls lie on the Argentine border.
