Cochin Shipyard Limited delivered Mangrol, the third Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, to the Indian Navy at Kochi on 21 August 2026.
It is the third of eight Mahe-class ASW SWCs being built by CSL, with more than 80 per cent indigenous content.
The 78-metre craft uses diesel engine-waterjet propulsion, reaches 25 knots and carries lightweight torpedoes, indigenous ASW rockets and shallow-water sonars.
It is named after Mangrol, a coastal town and minor port in the Junagadh district of Gujarat.
The first two ships of the class, Mahe and Malwan, were delivered in October 2025 and March 2026.

Large frigates and destroyers are built for the open ocean and cannot operate safely or usefully in shallow coastal waters, where their draught is too deep and their hull-mounted sonars perform poorly against the seabed clutter. ASW SWCs are small, shallow-draught vessels designed specifically for that littoral zone - hunting submarines close to the coast, conducting underwater surveillance, laying mines, running search-and-rescue and carrying out low-intensity maritime operations. Waterjet propulsion is chosen instead of conventional propellers because it needs less depth and gives far better manoeuvrability in confined coastal water.
Simple Analogy: A destroyer is a highway truck and an ASW SWC is a small van built for narrow lanes - the truck is more powerful, but it cannot get into the streets where the work has to be done.
