Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced on 27 August 2026 that the state will set up a Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, a women's university in which the Vice-Chancellor, the faculty, the non-teaching staff and the students will all be women.
The announcement was made at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna at the launch of the Samriddh Mahila-Samriddh Bihar campaign, organised by the Rural Development Department on the eve of Raksha Bandhan.
About Rs 600 crore was transferred by Direct Benefit Transfer to nearly 5 lakh women beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana at the same event.
The Chief Minister set out targets of employment for 1 crore women and 1 crore Lakhpati Didis, and announced monthly assistance of Rs 10,000 to 1,000 women pursuing PhD research.
