The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards (TNNAA) for 2024 in four categories — Land Adventure, Water Adventure, Air Adventure and Lifetime Achievement.
Four awardees were approved: Baljeet Kaur and Skalzang Rigzin (Land Adventure), Rimo Saha (Water Adventure) and Shiv Prasad Chamoli (Lifetime Achievement); the selections followed the recommendations of the National Selection Committee.
The awards will be conferred by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan along with the National Sports Awards 2025, on a date to be announced separately; each awardee receives a statuette, a certificate and award money of Rs 15 lakh.

On 29 May 1953, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary of New Zealand made the first confirmed ascent of Mount Everest, reaching the summit at about 11:30 a.m. They were part of the 1953 British expedition led by John Hunt, in which Tenzing served as sirdar, the lead Sherpa. News of the ascent reached the world on 2 June 1953, the day of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation. Hillary and Hunt were knighted; Tenzing was awarded the George Medal. He then became the first Director of Field Training at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling, established in November 1954, and held the post until 1976 — which is why India's national adventure award carries his name.
Simple Analogy: The award does for adventure what the Arjuna Award does for competitive sport: it puts a national name on achievement that happens far from any stadium, scoreboard or spectator.
The National Sports Awards, the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award and the MAKA Trophy are all conferred by the President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan — a recurring pairing question alongside the civilian and gallantry awards.
