India won nine medals - four gold, three silver and two bronze - at the 19th International Earth Science Olympiad, held in Turin, Italy, from 20 to 27 August 2026.
It is India's best-ever performance at the competition, achieved by a four-member team against students from 39 countries.
The team was Soumik Mandal, Aaron Maiti, Riddhi Ranjan and Mohammed Ehtesham Rizvi, selected from about 17,000 national applicants.
Soumik Mandal took gold in the individual written and practical examinations and recorded the third-highest individual score in the 19-year history of the IESO.
