Krishna AchutaRao, professor at IIT Delhi and Head of its Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, died at the age of 62 after a prolonged illness.
He was a lead author of the Fifth and Sixth Assessment Reports of IPCC Working Group I, which handles the physical science basis of climate change.
He joined IIT Delhi in 2007 after working at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California, and served as Dean (Faculty) and Head of the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences.
He helped establish IIT Delhi's Centre of Excellence for Climate Change Adaptation.
He was a member of the World Climate Research Programme's Joint Scientific Committee and the CLIVAR Scientific Steering Group.
