Adani Defence & Aerospace has signed a five-year agreement with Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) to supply indigenous 7.62x39 mm small-calibre ammunition for the AK-203 assault rifle programme.
The ammunition will be made at Adani's small-calibre facility in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh; the rifles are built at Korwa in Amethi district, Uttar Pradesh.
It links locally made rifles with locally made ammunition, closing the domestic supply chain for the programme.
IRRPL was incorporated in 2019 under an India-Russia inter-governmental pact; its Indian shareholders are AWEIL and Munitions India Limited, and its Russian shareholders are Rosoboronexport and Concern Kalashnikov.
The Ministry of Defence had signed a Rs 5,124 crore contract with IRRPL on 6 December 2021 for 6,01,427 AK-203 rifles.
