The President of India will present the 72nd National Film Awards on 22 September 2026 at Ekta Nagar (Kevadia), Gujarat, honouring Indian cinema of 2024.

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has decided to hold future editions in different states and cities rather than only in the National Capital.

●Ekta Nagar, in Narmada district of Gujarat, is the site of the Statue of Unity — the 182-metre statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel unveiled on 31 October 2018, the world's tallest statue.
●For the first time, a Santhali film has been honoured in the Non-Feature Film section; awards also span Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Tulu and Garhwali.
●Best Film Critic: Sanjeev Shrivastava; Best Book on Cinema: Dr Pradeep Kenchanuru's work on the philosophy and politics of Kannada cinema.
