Hazarika was born on 8 September 1926 at Sadiya in Assam and died in 2011; he was a singer, lyricist, composer, filmmaker and writer.
He received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1992, the Padma Vibhushan posthumously in 2012 and the Bharat Ratna posthumously in 2019.
