Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah chaired the third meeting of the Governing Body of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) in New Delhi.
The meeting was told that the State Disaster Response Fund allocation has risen nearly fourfold and the National Disaster Response Fund nearly threefold, with about Rs 2.5 lakh crore spent on the sector over the last 11 years and Rs 2 lakh crore provided by the 16th Finance Commission for the period.
NIDM and NDMA were directed to jointly issue disaster-wise national guidelines, with NIDM handling training and NDRF and State Disaster Response Forces implementing them on the ground.
After every disaster, a joint team of NDMA, NIDM, NDRF and SDRF is to study the causes of damage and prepare a detailed report; departments must set up dedicated cells reviewed quarterly.
