A Russian drone struck the locomotive of a Kyiv-Warsaw passenger train in Ukraine's Volyn region on 13 September 2026, about two kilometres from the Polish border.
No one was injured: a railway team monitoring drone activity warned the crew roughly 15 minutes before impact and the train was evacuated.
The service was run by Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine's state railway; Poland's PKP Intercity said the train was carrying 206 passengers.
Polish authorities identified the jet-powered drones involved as Geran-5; rail lines at Lutsk and Fastiv had been struck a day earlier.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk chaired an emergency security meeting in Warsaw on 14 September, and Ukraine's Foreign Minister called for tougher sanctions on Russia.
