The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs informed Parliament that the e-Zero FIR system for cybercrime is now operational across 18 States and UTs, with over 12,000 e-Zero FIRs registered.
The system, developed by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), automatically generates an FIR for financial cyber-fraud complaints crossing a specified threshold reported via the 1930 helpline or NCRP.
It is enabled under Section 173(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
Complainants must visit their local police station within 3 days to convert the e-Zero FIR into a regular FIR.
Complaints of financial cybercrime losses reported via the 1930 helpline or the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), above a specified threshold, automatically trigger an e-Zero FIR at a central e-Crime Police Station, which is instantly routed to the relevant territorial cybercrime police station based on the complainant's location.
Simple Analogy: It works like an emergency alert that files itself instantly, then gets forwarded to the right local desk to be formalised.
Allows electronic filing of information on cognizable offences irrespective of jurisdiction
