No district in India is currently categorised as LWE-affected; the count fell from 126 districts to 90 (April 2018), 70 (July 2021), 38 (April 2024), 8 (December 2025) and to zero (March/April 2026).
37 districts are now classed 'Legacy & Thrust' districts requiring continued support, and 1 remains a 'District of Concern'.
The decline is attributed to the 'National Policy and Action Plan to Address LWE' (2015) and the SAMADHAN doctrine (2017), combining security, development and community-rights measures.
₹3,805.04 crore has been released to LWE-affected states since 2014-15 under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) Scheme.
Information was given by MoS Home Nityanand Rai in a written Rajya Sabha reply.
