Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh, on 1 August 2026.
The greenfield airport was built on 2,200 acres by GMR Visakhapatnam International Airport Limited under a public-private partnership.
Commercial operations begin on 17 August 2026, with an initial capacity of 6 million passengers a year, expandable to 40 million.
The airport is named after Alluri Sitarama Raju, the freedom fighter who led tribal resistance against British rule in the Eastern Ghats.
Modi also dedicated development projects worth over Rs 17,900 crore in Andhra Pradesh on the same visit.
