Soman Rana won gold in the men's F57 shot put at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on 1 August.

F57 is a para athletics classification for seated throwers with limb impairments affecting the lower body.
Para athletics uses a letter-and-number code to group athletes by the type and degree of their impairment so that competition is fair. 'T' denotes track events and 'F' field events, while the number indicates the impairment category — the 50s series covers athletes with limb deficiency, impaired muscle power or restricted range of movement who compete seated. F57 therefore identifies a seated throwing class, in which athletes throw from a fixed frame without a run-up.
Simple Analogy: It works like weight categories in boxing: the classification exists so that athletes are matched against others facing comparable physical constraints.
