Suraj Kumar Chand became the first Indian to win gold in the men's individual category at the FISU World University Squash Championships on 6 August 2026.
He beat Hungary's Benedek Takács in a five-game final, 5-11, 11-8, 11-5, 6-11, 11-4.
The championships were held at Somaiya Vidyavihar University in Mumbai, where Chand studies.
It was his second medal at the event, having won men's singles bronze at the previous edition in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He had earlier won gold at the National School Games Squash Championship.
