Ariha Pangambam of Imphal, Manipur, won India's first senior gold medal in the individual women's category at the Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships on 7 August 2026.
The championship was held in Tagaytay City, Philippines, from 4 to 7 August 2026 under the sanction of the Asian Gymnastics Union.
She won the final with a score of 19.100 — 8.650 for artistry, 7.600 for execution and 2.850 for difficulty.
The event brought together more than 400 athletes and officials from 11 countries.
Pangambam had finished fourth in both the 2022 and 2024 editions of the Asian Championships.
Aerobic gymnastics is one of the disciplines recognised by the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique, the international governing body for the sport. Routines consist of high-intensity aerobic movements demanding flexibility, strength and coordination, performed to music. Judging is divided into three components — artistry, which assesses the choreography and musical interpretation; execution, which measures technical cleanliness; and difficulty, which credits the complexity of elements attempted. This three-part scoring explains why a competitor's total can be built differently: a high artistry score with moderate difficulty can outscore a riskier routine performed less cleanly.
