Writing a standard is only the first step; someone must then verify that a given product actually meets it. Conformity assessment is the set of procedures used for that verification — testing, inspection, certification and related processes. This is where the two partners complement each other. BIS frames Indian Standards for products, processes and services but is a standards body rather than a research institution in Ayurveda. CCRAS holds the domain expertise and a network of institutions and laboratories, many with National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and ISO accreditation, which is the infrastructure through which testing can actually be carried out.
Simple Analogy: A standard is the recipe and the specification of what the dish should taste like. Conformity assessment is the inspector who tastes it and certifies that the kitchen got it right.
