The first of three indigenously built beam catchers reached the Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) at Darmstadt, Germany, on 7 August 2026.
It will be installed in the Super Fragment Separator (super-FRS), one of FAIR's major experimental systems.
The beam catcher was designed by CSIR-Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, Durgapur, and manufactured in Kanpur.
India became a founding member of FAIR on 4 October 2010 and is the only non-European shareholder in FAIR GmbH.
India's contribution is funded on a 50:50 basis by the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Atomic Energy.
