Amgen announced a Science and Innovation Centre in Genome Valley, Hyderabad, after signing an MoU with the Government of Telangana on August 11, 2026.
The facility is planned to become operational in 2027 and is expected to add around 200 highly skilled jobs.
It will join Amgen's global R&D network, which currently has seven research laboratories worldwide.
Focus areas include discovery chemistry, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, precision medicine, data science and digital technologies.
Amgen had opened its Global Capability Center in Hyderabad in February 2025.
These are three sequential problems in developing a drug. Discovery chemistry designs and synthesises candidate molecules. Drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics — DMPK — studies what the body does to a drug: how it is absorbed, distributed, metabolised and excreted. A molecule that works perfectly in a test tube is useless if the body breaks it down before it reaches its target, which is why DMPK decides the fate of most candidates. Precision medicine then works in the other direction, using biological and clinical data to tailor treatment to individual patients rather than to an average one.
Simple Analogy: Designing the key, checking whether it survives the journey to the lock, and then making sure it fits this particular door.
