DRDO opened NETRA-2026, a two-day national seminar on Electronic Warfare, Digital Twin and Mission Critical System Design, in Bengaluru on August 11, 2026.
Dr. B.K. Das, DRDO's Director General of Electronics and Communication Systems, inaugurated it as chief guest.
More than 200 participants attended from the Armed Forces, DRDO, ISRO, defence PSUs, academia and industry.
It was organised with the Association of Old Crows India Chapter.
Seminar sessions continued on August 12, followed by a hands-on technical workshop on August 13, 2026.
Electronic warfare is the military use of the electromagnetic spectrum for detection, protection, disruption and deception. Defence studies divide it into three standard categories. Electronic support is listening — detecting and identifying enemy emissions such as radar and radio. Electronic attack is interfering — jamming, deceiving or degrading those systems. Electronic protection is defending your own systems against the same treatment. Because modern combat depends on radar, communications and satellite links, controlling the spectrum has become a precondition for using anything else.
Simple Analogy: Listening to the other side's radio, jamming it, and making sure yours cannot be jammed — three different jobs on the same airwaves.
A digital twin is a virtual model of a physical system, asset or process, used for simulation, testing and monitoring. Instead of building and breaking hardware to learn how it fails, engineers run the failure on the model. This matters most for mission critical systems — those whose failure directly affects operations in defence, aviation and communications, where a fault cannot simply be patched after the fact. Pairing the two ideas, as this seminar does, reflects how high-reliability engineering is now done: test exhaustively in simulation, because the real system must not be the place where problems are discovered.
Simple Analogy: A flight simulator for the machine itself, not just for the pilot.
