On 20 August 2026, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri met Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Port Louis, where a government-to-government MoU on oil and gas cooperation was exchanged and a long-term fuel supply agreement was concluded.
The five-year sales and purchase agreement is between Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and the State Trading Corporation (STC) of Mauritius, under which IOCL will supply the island's entire import requirement of motor spirit (petrol), high speed diesel and aviation turbine fuel.
It is the first long-term supply agreement concluded by an Indian public sector oil marketing company outside South Asia in recent years.
The G2G MoU covers petroleum product supply, training and capacity building for Mauritian officials, and cooperation in biofuels.
On 21 August, Puri and Mauritius Energy and Public Utilities Minister Patrick Gervais Assirvaden broke ground on a 27,500-tonne (27.5 TMT) marine bunker fuel storage facility of IndianOil (Mauritius) Ltd at Mer Rouge, Port Louis, and jointly launched a Biofuels Country Landscape policy framework developed under the Global Biofuels Alliance.
