The 18th BRICS Summit ended at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on 13 September 2026, and India handed the rotating chairship to China, which will host the 19th Summit in 2027.
At the closing open session, PM Modi said that as BRICS enters its third decade the world expects 'concrete results, not just ideas and commitments'.
He warned that the 'weaponisation of technology and critical minerals' could hinder shared progress, and called for resilient supply chains and wider access to technology for the Global South.
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged BRICS to 'seize the historical initiative' and said China would lead a BRICS open-source AI ecosystem.
The New Delhi Declaration had been adopted on 12 September. India chaired under four pillars: Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.
