Four moth bean varieties developed by ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI), Jodhpur (CAZRI Moth-4, 5, 6 and 7) held up well during the El Nino-hit Kharif 2026 season.
The crop survived a dry spell of about 35 days in Rajasthan (3 August - 7 September). Surface soil moisture fell from 15-16% to 5-6%.
Moth-4 and Moth-5 were released in 2023, Moth-6 and Moth-7 in 2024, and Moth-8 and Moth-9 in 2025. Moth-10 and Moth-11 have been selected for release in 2026.
