PM Meets African Union Chair, Burundi's President; Early Convening of IAFS-IV Discussed

PM Modi met Évariste Ndayishimiye, President of Burundi and Chairperson of the African Union, in New Delhi on 13 September 2026, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit.

They discussed convening the 4th India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV) soon, and recalled India's role in bringing the AU into the G20 in 2023.

The AU Chair thanked India for its medical support to Africa CDC during the Ebola outbreak.

●African Union (AU): launched July 2002 in Durban, succeeding the OAU; 55 member states; HQ Addis Ababa.
●AU joined the G20 as a permanent member on 9 September 2023 at the New Delhi Summit, under India's presidency. It was the second regional body in the G20, after the EU.
