Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated 'Bharat Vann', a Miyawaki-method urban forest at Lodhi Colony Park, New Delhi, on 17 September 2026.
The New Delhi Municipal Council is developing it with CSR funding from India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL), and the Enviro Creators Foundation is implementing it.
About 10,000 native saplings are being planted over around 3,000 sq m, with 36 months of maintenance.
The drive is part of the month-long Swachhata Hi Seva campaign that began on the Prime Minister's 76th birthday.
Developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki: native species are planted densely in multiple layers (shrub, sub-tree, tree, canopy) on prepared soil. They compete for light and grow fast, forming a self-sustaining forest on small degraded urban plots.
