On 17 September 2026, Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated twin flower fields at Choglamsar and Stakna in Leh district, described as the world's highest.
The fields sit at about 10,600 feet (about 3,265 m), cover 40 acres and hold more than 25 lakh plants: about 24 lakh Lilium and 1 lakh Gladiolus.
The Agriculture Department grows the first crop and will then hand the fields to selected self-help groups and cooperatives, to build commercial floriculture as a farm income.
Choglamsar opened to the public on 18 September and will also serve as a demonstration and model centre for floriculture.

Stakna expected to bloom
Choglamsar and Stakna lie in Leh district of Ladakh, a high-altitude cold desert with a short growing season. Ladakh became a Union Territory without a legislature on 31 October 2019, under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. Vinai Kumar Saxena, a former Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, took oath on 13 March 2026 as the 4th Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, succeeding Kavinder Gupta.
