Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 began nationwide on 17 September 2026 and runs for a month, to 17 October 2026.
Theme: 'Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat', putting Jan Bhagidari (people's participation) at the centre.
It is organised jointly by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (Ministry of Jal Shakti) and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
Five pillars run from cleaning neglected 'Cleanliness Target Units' to waste-to-wealth under 'Swachhata se Samriddhi'.
A nationwide shramdaan, 'Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath', is set for 1 October, with Swachh Bharat Diwas on 2 October.

Key: Approved February 2020 with an outlay of Rs 1,40,881 crore; villages graded ODF Plus Aspiring, Rising or Model.
Mass tree plantation in the name of one's mother.
Key: Launched by the Prime Minister on 5 June 2024 (World Environment Day); folded into the 2 October SHS activities.
Notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on 27 January 2026, superseding the 2016 Rules and in force from 1 April 2026. They mandate four-stream segregation at source (wet, dry, sanitary, special care) and restrict landfills to non-recyclable inert waste - the rules SHS 2026 is spreading awareness about.
