On 17 September 2026, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) launched Custom System-on-Chip (SoC) Design Services for automotive OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers and semiconductor companies.
The service covers architecture, design, verification, implementation, software integration and system validation of custom silicon.
TCS uses a 'chip-to-system' approach: it defines the chip's requirements against the whole vehicle before committing to silicon design.
Demand comes from centralised computing, driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and software-defined vehicles, where custom chips improve performance-per-watt.
An SoC puts a processor, memory, input-output interfaces and specialised engines (graphics, AI) on one integrated circuit. It is built through VLSI design. A software-defined vehicle runs its features on a few such central computers and updates them over the air.
Simple Analogy: A whole computer's circuit board shrunk onto one fingernail-sized chip.
Chip design is the first of its six pillars, with a target of 200 chip-design start-ups. Design services like this one are the part of the chain where India already has depth
