NEET-PG 2026 held for 2.73 lakh candidates; re-test ordered for 2,445 in Jaipur
•
The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducted NEET-PG 2026 on 30 August 2026 at 1,111 centres across 339 cities covering all 36 States and Union Territories.
•
The examination was scheduled for 2,73,096 candidates; 2,65,980 appeared and it was completed for approximately 2,63,535, with live CCTV surveillance, Aadhaar-based authentication and 16 NBEMS Regional Command Centres.
•
At two iON Digital Zone centres in Sitapura, Jaipur, internal power-supply failure attributable to the conducting agency M/s TCS Ltd. stopped the examination for 2,445 candidates, who will be re-examined on 5 September 2026 at 3:00 PM in Jaipur.

Fourth Tri-Services Future Warfare Course concludes at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi
•
The fourth edition of the Tri-Services Future Warfare Course concluded on 30 August 2026 at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi, after four weeks of instruction.
•
It was conducted under the aegis of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS) and coordinated by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS), drawing officers of the Army, Navy and Air Force along with participants from government, academia, industry and think tanks.
•
Certificates were presented by the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee, Air Marshal Tejinder Singh; the fifth edition is scheduled from 16 November to 11 December 2026.

Vice President opens Aranmula Uthrittathi Vallamkali on the Pamba river
•
Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the Aranmula Uthrittathi Vallamkali on the Pamba river, calling the snake-boat festival a symbol of Keralam's cultural heritage.
•
He linked the festival to the Sree Parthasarathy Temple at Aranmula and to the GI-tagged Aranmula Kannadi metal mirror, and pressed for the preservation of traditional crafts and knowledge systems.
•
He also greeted the state on its recent renaming as Keralam, recalling that he presided over the passage of the renaming Bill as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

India-Chile CEPA talks advance in Santiago; conclusion targeted within 2026

Commerce Secretary Shri Rajesh Agrawal met Ms Paula Estevez Weinstein, Chile's Vice-Minister of International Economic Relations, in Santiago on 26 August 2026 to advance negotiations on the India-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
•
India said it remains committed to concluding the negotiations within the year, and named healthcare, pharmaceuticals, energy, minerals, agriculture, machinery and engineering as the sectors with the largest potential.
•
Both sides framed the talks through their shared identity as Global South economies, and expect the CEPA to open trade and investment while building cooperation in technology, talent and resilient supply chains.

88th Fit India Sundays on Cycle held as BRICS Run & Ride ahead of Delhi summit
•
The 88th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle was held on 30 August 2026 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, as a National Sports Day edition organised in collaboration with BRICS under the banner 'BRICS Run & Ride 2026', and simultaneously at more than 25,000 locations across the country.
•
Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya led the ride with Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir, wrestler Sangram Singh and actor Madhurima Tuli, before a crowd of over 5,000; ambassadors and envoys of BRICS member and partner countries took part.
•
Dr Mandaviya linked the edition to India's hosting of the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam on 12-13 September, and described cycling as delivering three benefits at once - fitness, reduced pollution and easier traffic.

Mann Ki Baat 137th episode: Mission ShaktiSAT, Suryapath Tiranga and PM SVANidhi's women vendors

The Prime Minister broadcast the 137th episode of Mann Ki Baat on 30 August 2026, the monthly radio programme that began on 3 October 2014 and airs on the last Sunday of each month over the All India Radio and Doordarshan networks.
•
Scheme content: women make up about 46% of PM SVANidhi beneficiaries, roughly 35 lakh street vendors, and the 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat' campaign against substance abuse was flagged as gaining momentum.
•
Patriotic observances of August were recalled - Har Ghar Tiranga with over 8 crore 'Tiranga selfies' uploaded, and the 'Suryapath Tiranga' initiative under which the Tricolour was hoisted first in Suva (Fiji) at dawn and then successively at Indian Missions across Asia, Africa, Europe and finally San Francisco.

PM-SETU conclave: industry to hold 51% in ITI cluster SPVs, Rs 1,500 crore committed
•
The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the Government of Uttar Pradesh held the PM-SETU Industry Conclave in Lucknow on 30 August 2026.
•
Each PM-SETU cluster comprises one Hub ITI and four Spoke ITIs and can attract investment of up to Rs 241 crore, funded 50% by the Centre, 33% by the State and 17% by the industry partner.
•
The cluster Special Purpose Vehicle gives the Anchor Industry Partner 51% ownership, with the Centre and the State holding 24.5% each.

National Biodiversity Authority releases Rs 5.68 crore in benefit-sharing funds to States
•
The National Biodiversity Authority has disbursed Rs 5.68 crore under the Access and Benefit-Sharing mechanism of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002.
•
The money went to State Biodiversity Boards, Union Territory Biodiversity Councils and one national research institution, mainly against access to okra, cucumber and watermelon.
•
The single largest component, Rs 3.51 crore, relates to okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) — 139 varieties and 28 hybrids — and was shared among 32 State Boards and UT Councils.

iFMS enters new phase: 14 crore Aadhaar-linked buyers, Rs 2 lakh crore subsidy tracked digitally

The Department of Fertilizers has moved the Integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS) from transaction recording to an integrated monitoring and decision-support platform.
•
iFMS covers more than 14 crore Aadhaar-linked fertilizer buyers, over 2.5 lakh retailers and around 7 crore metric tonnes of fertilizer sale transactions a year, and supports subsidy administration of nearly Rs 2 lakh crore annually.
•
A new Framework for Fertilizer Sale lets a farmer book fertilizer against an AgriStack-verified ID and generates a QR-based booking that is checked at the retailer's Point of Sale device.

The Department of Consumer Affairs notified the Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2026 on 27 August 2026.

The Rules make Indian Standard Time the common time reference across the country for legal, administrative, commercial and other official purposes.

They come into force 180 days after publication in the Official Gazette, giving departments and businesses time to reconfigure systems.

Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education rose from 23.7% in 2014-15 to 30% in 2023-24, against the National Education Policy 2020 target of 50% by 2035.

Universities grew from 760 to 1,289 (69.6%) and total enrolment from 3.42 crore to 4.50 crore (31.5%).
