Both provinces were themselves divided by the new boundary, rather than falling wholly on one side. Observance takes the form of exhibitions, documentaries, educational programmes and survivor narratives, with the explicit aim of teaching later generations the dangers of communal hatred and intolerance while promoting unity and peaceful coexistence.
