The Automotive Research Association of India has received ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation from NABL for its Cylinder Testing Facility at the Mobility Research Centre, Takwe, Pune.
The facility tests high-pressure gaseous cylinders for automotive, hydrogen, industrial, marine, defence and space applications.
It can test Type I to Type IV cylinders and hydrogen cylinders up to 700 bar, though some specialised hydrogen tests remain outside the accredited scope.
ARAI director Dr Reji Mathai said the accreditation expands domestic testing capacity and can reduce the industry's reliance on overseas facilities.
Cylinders are graded by how much of the pressure the metal carries. Type I is all metal; Type II and Type III add composite wrapping over a metal liner; Type IV uses a polymer liner fully wrapped in composite, making it the lightest and the type favoured for 700-bar hydrogen storage.
