A PIB Backgrounder traces how removing bamboo from the legal definition of 'tree' in 2017 opened bamboo cultivation, harvesting and transport to farmers and enterprises.
The National Bamboo Mission, NECTAR's bamboo technologies and SHG-led enterprises under DAY-NRLM are expanding the value chain, especially in the Northeast.
NECTAR interventions generate about 30 million person-days of work a year and have raised value addition on bamboo from 10% to as much as 70%.
