PM Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on 12 September 2026 on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in New Delhi, their first meeting since Tianjin in August 2025.
Modi said ties must rest on 'three mutuals' - mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest - and that peace in border areas is the essential basis of the relationship.
Both sides committed to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable boundary settlement and to addressing the structural trade imbalance and supply-chain issues.
It was Xi's first visit to India since the 2019 Mamallapuram informal summit.
