The United Nations Day for South-South Cooperation falls on 12 September; the UN's 2026 high-level observance was held a day earlier, on 11 September, at UN Headquarters in New York.
The 2026 theme is "Solidarity Rising: Global Alliance for Inclusive and Innovative Development".
The observance launched the Global Alliance for South-South and Triangular Cooperation, a voluntary, UN-facilitated platform convened by the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC).
The date marks the adoption of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action (BAPA) on 12 September 1978.
