Har Ghar Tiranga began in 2022 as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav commemoration of 75 years of independence, asking citizens to hoist the Tricolour at home and upload a selfie with it. It has since become an annual fixture in the run-up to 15 August; the 2026 edition ran from 9 to 17 August on the theme 'Spirit of Vande Mataram', marking 150 years of the national song. The display of the flag is governed by the Flag Code of India, 2002, read with the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
