The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company on 7 September 2026.
The order cited lapses in outsourcing, vendor management and corporate governance, in violation of the Outsourcing Regulations, 2017 read with the Corporate Governance Guidelines, 2016.
IRDAI found that event-management services involving agents of other insurers were not classified as outsourced activities or reported in outsourcing returns, and that certain expenses went unreported.
The action followed an onsite inspection begun in September 2019 and show cause notices issued on 8 July 2024 and 17 December 2024.
ICICI Lombard disclosed to the stock exchanges that it received the order electronically at 6:31 p.m. on 7 September 2026 and that the financial impact is limited to the Rs 1 crore penalty.
