On 7 September 2026 the Supreme Court fixed 30 November 2026 as the non-extendable deadline for the High-Powered Committee's final report on defining and protecting the Aravalli Hills and Ranges.
The five-member panel, constituted on 25 May 2026 and chaired by ICFRE Director General Kanchan Devi, had missed its original 31 August 2026 deadline.
The bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana rejected a request to extend the deadline to 28 February 2027.
The court allowed issue-specific interim reports, directed consultation with stakeholders including tribal communities in Rajasthan and Gujarat, and indicated the panel could be reconstituted if it failed.
