India and China held their first-ever Corps Commander-level military talks in Arunachal Pradesh on 6-7 September 2026.
The talks were held at the Wacha-Damai Border Personnel Meeting point in the Kibithu sector of Anjaw district; on 6 September the Chinese side crossed to Wacha and on 7 September the Indian delegation crossed to Damai.
The Indian delegation was led by Lieutenant General Girish Kalia, Commander of the Indian Army's 3 Corps, known as Spear Corps and based at Rangapahar, Nagaland.
All earlier Corps Commander-level rounds had been held at the Chushul-Moldo meeting point in eastern Ladakh, making this the first such engagement in the eastern sector.
The talks followed reported troop build-ups at Taksing in Upper Subansiri district and the 25 August 2026 Beijing talks between NSA Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
A corps is a large Army formation made up of several divisions. Talks at this level put the senior field commanders of both armies in the same room, one rung below diplomatic channels and well above routine flag meetings.
Simple Analogy: Not the capitals talking, but the two men who actually command the troops facing each other.

Kibithu lies in Anjaw district, the easternmost stretch of the India-China frontier in Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh shares international borders with China to the north, Bhutan to the west and Myanmar to the east. Taksing is in Upper Subansiri district, further west along the same frontier.
